New decoration 2011 designed by Candice Olson

Candice Olson, a leading designer in the United States and Canada, began her career in commercial and residential design after graduating from the School of Interior Design at Ryerson University in Toronto. Candice received accolades and media attention for her distinctive and exceptional work before moving her design career to television. In fact, earlier in her career, the New York Times identified her as “one to watch.”

Candice’s foray into TV began when a Canadian station profiled one of her award-winning design projects. Her unique approach to residential design and engaging personality led to a weekly stint as a design contributor to the show. Today, Candice can be seen as the host and designer on HGTV’s Divine Design and as a judge on HGTV Design Star. She has been featured on the Today show, Live! With Regis and Kelly, The View and The Oprah Winfrey Show. In addition, Candice writes a syndicated biweekly newspaper column that runs in more than 400 U.S. newspapers.

In 2005, Candice launched "The Candice Olson Collection," a successful brand of home decor products, including upholstered furniture, fabrics, wallpaper, lighting, bedding and more. Candice's signature style is one she describes as "a fusion of traditional form, scale and proportions, with the clean, crisp, simplistic beauty of modern design.”

When she’s not in front of the camera, Candice enjoys spending time with her family, whether it’s skiing or relaxing at the beach. Candice resides in Toronto with her husband and two children.

Outdoor Showers

Finally, time for outdoor activities, showers are prominent around beach homes or homes with pools.

Get back to nature by attaching a shower head and knobs to an organic support. The palm trees set around this shower provide privacy and awaken the senses. I love the natural feel of this idea.

Reading Corner : " Fashionable and Comfy Recamier Reading Corner "

There are few activities as relaxing and stimulating as reading. Those who enjoy it so much usually have their own special reading corner within their crib, a place where they like to get lost in the fascinating words of who knows what authors. What you see in the photos below is a combination between a comfortable chaise-longue and a shelving system, creating the “Recamier Reading Corner” from designer Inbar Paradny Kalomidi. With this type of furniture item, reading will seem more intense than ever, as the ergonomics of this design ensures maximum body comfort and a high level of concentration. The uncommon reading corner looks perfect for the living room and when it is not in use by one of the passionate “readers” within the home, it can serve as a regular sitting item. With the shelves near by, all of the user’s favorite books are easy to reach and so are other items that can be used during reading intermissions.-

New Traditional Bedroom Design

Warm neutrals with golden accents draw you into this warm, intimate space. The slight sheen on the drapery panels and bedding add a luminous quality, and the linear details of the fabrics and furniture are caught by the light from the wall mounted arc sconces on either side of this master bedroom. A true retreat within the home, this cozy spot will make for a memorable 'staycation'.

Fitzsimmons Design used a fresh periwinkle blue to fill the volume of space in this master bedroom. Light and airy window treatments complete the happy feeling in the room. Designer tip: When designing a large bedroom, think outside the box; choose a settee and a café table at the end of the bed for a private breakfast area.

An inviting guest room mixes warm golds with crisp black and white. Adding just a pop of color, the pillows repeat the spring green color found in the antique lamp.

Repeating the pattern in the rug, ceiling and throw pillow creates a very interesting look in a room.

Reading Corner Design Ideas For Small Space

We realized we haven’t paid any attention to good books lately, which is why we decided to make a post especially for them. In our opinion, every home should be enriched by a bookcase, no matter how minimalist its design would be. Most people prefer reading in bed before sleep or taking a good book outside and find the coziest park bench. But what if you could have the perfect “erudition” place within your reach, conveniently integrated in your own crib? In this post we decided to showcase some of the most beautiful reading corners we encountered while researching for Freshome ideas. We narrowed it down to 35 amazing photos of reading corners that we find extremely inviting. Some of them feature stylish armchairs, others just interesting floor arrangements. We even have examples of reading corners which were improvised on the windowsill. Enjoy the photos!
